The Australian Nursing Home Foundation manages both government owned and privately owned accommodation for elderly tenants of Chinese origin. Its aim is to offer supportive services as well as maintaining a comfortable and safe living environment for the seniors.
ANHF is a registered community housing provider. We manage 70 units on behalf of the Department of Housing NSW. These units are located in close proximity to Chinatown: 24 units (3 floors) at 2 Poplar Street, Surry Hills and 46 units (a purpose-built complex) at 528 Jones Street, Ultimo.
ANHF collect rent from the Poplar Street tenants on behalf of the Department of Housing NSW. On the other hand, ANHF has full management right of the Jones Street units. These units are purposely catered for the seniors who are eligible for public housing accommodation, financially disadvantaged and/or socially isolated.
In 2009, with the generous support of Mr Wilson Chieng, ANHF was able to purchase a block of 34 units for Aus$1. The property is named Lucy Chieng Gardens in memory of Mr Chieng’s late mother.
This property was fully renovated in early 2010 and is in operation as a privately owned two storey hostel style for seniors over 60. This property is catered for those seniors who are able to live independently in a culturally appropriate environment with supportive services from ANHF.
