Volunteers play important roles in the development and provision of our quality services. Due to the increase in Government funding and expansion of community services within our organisation, the recruitment of volunteers to help with the operation of day to day programs is of great demand. There are three areas where volunteers are needed to ensure we are able to fulfill the provision of quality services to our elderly clients: front line work, back-up work and outdoor work. Front line work includes direct service or contact with elderly people, such as assistance with recreational activities in nursing homes and centre-based day care, preparing morning tea ,setting up tables for lunch, transportation, arts and crafts, singing and dancing performances etc,. Back-up work include helping in the resource library, data entry, clerical support, office administration, reception, photography, editing and publishing, promotion, translation and multimedia design. Outdoor work includes escorting in outing, open day and promotion stalls. Volunteers also take part in special events such as the Moon Festival Seniors Luncheon, Chinese New Year Celebrations, Christmas parties and fundraising activities. Whilst volunteers help the Foundation in providing excellence in services, volunteers themselves would gain invaluable experiences which widen their knowledge and social network. The Foundation provides the volunteers with the same orientation program as our staff. The program content includes the introduction of the organisation as well as mandatory training in: manual handling, infection control and fire evacuation. Regular meetings and in-service training are organised to maintain the knowledge and skills of volunteers. In order to show our sincere appreciation for all our volunteers’ valuable contribution, we invite them to attend our annual Volunteers Appreciation Day and Christmas party. It is a good opportunity for the volunteers gather together with our staff and board members to enjoy a delicious Chinese banquet, entertainment and award presentation to all volunteers.
