Australian Seniors Expo 2018 Success

Australian Seniors Expo 2018

The Australian Seniors Expo 2018 was held on 11-12 August at Sydney Town Hall (Lower Hall). This free family event attracted over 6,000 attendees, featuring over 30 exhibitors, a “smart home for seniors” displaying seniors friendly furniture, tools and equipment. A live stage hosting a wide variety of health talks from leading industry professionals, demonstration of healthy exercises, entertainment and plenty of prizes were given away over the weekend. We were delighted to be able to also showcase at the Expo, an art exhibition featuring over 120 paintings created from ANHF housing tenants, clients across six seniors wellness centres and our home care recipients.

Official Opening

The official opening was officiated by special guests, Mr Zamir Yusuf, Acting Director of the Aged Care National Compliance Centre, Department of Health and Cr Robert Kok of the City of Sydney jointly with Ellen Louie, our Chairman. Messages of Support from Cr Clover Moore, Sydney Lord Mayor of City of Sydney (venue sponsor) and the Hon Ken Wyatt, the Minister for Aged Care and the Minister for Indigenous Health were read out by Cr Kok and Ellen Louie, ANHF Chairman respectively.

Exhibitors and Smart Home for Seniors

The attendees had the opportunity to meet and learn from over 30 exhibitors offering choices for active and healthy ageing. We proudly hosted a wide range of exhibitors across geriatric and allied health services, home and community care services, healthy eating and nutritional supplements, ageing related diseases, aged care furniture and equipment, seniors housing, community resources, government and advocacy agencies, and funeral services. Popular exhibits included Astris Lifecare, where attendees could try out their seniors friendly furniture and equipment. This enabled seniors who are frail and living with Dementia with choices for active ageing in a safe and supportive environment. Also popular was the medical and allied health desk, where nurses carried out free health checks such as BMI, blood pressure for seniors. See our full list of exhibitors and speakers below.

Live Stage Entertainment

Hosted by ANHF, our MC Rebecca Yee provided a busy program, filled with various talks from leading industry professionals and entertainment over two days. The stage featured some performances, including salsa for seniors and an interactive act from the Fusion Culture Group.
